In the majority of cases our clients only require heating for around 7 months of the year. Unfortunately many pool heating companies do not tell you that a traditional solar heating system is not effective in the winter months, which is really when you need your pool to be warm.

 

This is due to low night time temperatures and poor heat supply from the sun due to the short days at this time of year. If you really want a warm pool in winter then leave the solar off and install a heat pump instead.

A simple explanation of solar pool heating is taking water from your pool, running it through black tubing on your roof so the sun warms it up. It is simple but to work well and last 10+ years in the sun you need the right product and experienced installation.

 

In the design process we ensure that the trunk supply lines, manifold lines and return lines are all correctly sized to ensure the right flow rate through the collector system. A commercial pool with 800m2 of collector is not just 20 x 40m2 on a backyard pool, which is what some solar companies think. Our systems use commercial 80 and 100mm lines with various design loop lengths so we get it right the first time.

There are a lot of solar pool heating products on the market which makes it hard for consumers to pick which is best. Some are very cheap but we all know we get what we pay for. Some are very new, but will they last 10 years on your roof. Some installers work out of their garage, but will they be around to fix up a problem in 6 months time.

Our Manufacturer and partner Pacific Heat Pumps are specialist suppliers in the domestic, commercial and aquatic centre market. Through years of investment and experience we have gained the expertise to design, supply and install a heating system to suit any size pool.

 

Using modelling software and the latest technology available we can provide the best possible solution using heat pumps, solar and gas or combination products with specialised control systems.

 

We can also design, in many locations, geothermal heat source systems using specialised filters and heat exchangers to accept hot bore water as a heat source. This provides pool heating without the power costs associated with traditional heat pump systems.

 

There are over 300 PHP Domestic Heat Pump units in operation all over Australia from Cairns to Launceston and across to Perth. The main issues with most heat pumps on the market are below:

• Corrosion of the cabinet and internal components
• No automatic defrost to avoid/remove ice on the coils

They rate the power output of our units on our brochure and we use a15 degree air temperature not 27 degree air temperature. Many companies do this to make their units appear to output more power than they do. If a supplier can’t tell you the power output during a typical Australian winter temperature then don’t buy their machine.

 

Our units have stainless steel or plastic cabinets to suit the wet, coastal environment here in Australia. Powder coating is painted steel and steel rusts.

 

 

The whole point of a heat pump is to heat your pool when it is cold. If your heat pump does not have automatic defrost it will sit idle until the air temperature reaches min +9 degrees before it can turn on. This will mean a cold pool in the morning and higher operating costs as you can’t use the cheaper off peak tariff to heat your pool.

 

PHP heat pumps had design input by our own service and support staff to ensure they can be easily serviced and repaired in the future.

 

A pool heating system is a 10 year+ investment so our expectation is that from the point of purchase you are our client for many years to come. We size systems correctly, give accurate advice and are honest with you. Apart from these things there are some technical reasons why your next heating system should be supplied by SolarGreen:

 

1) Our PHP-90 to 150 units are top discharge so are better suited to commercial installations than side discharge units. Exhaust air is mixed by the fans approx 2 to 3m above the ground resulting in negligible impact on condenser air temperature.

 

2) Our PHP-90 to 150 units are tall by design and feature high mount V shaped condenser coils. This design reduces the effect/occurrence of re-entry of cold exhaust air. Vertical low to the ground condenser coils in competitor’s models, pickup the cold air that has fallen to ground level. NB frost only occurs in nature close to the ground where the air is coldest

 

3) All of our PHP units have very efficient and effective defrost systems removing the need any duct work on top of outdoor units. The defrost system combined with the design features in point 2 remove the need for exhaust air ducting in any outdoor environment.

 

4) All of our PHP units feature inbuilt intelligent controllers removing the need for additional external controllers, cabling and expense. The controllers take care of phase protection, surge protection, compressor staging and duty cycle, circulation pump sampling, defrost parameters and cycling, operational timer, temperature differentials etc.

 

5) All of our PHP controllers also feature master-slave operation to allow a designated master unit to control the slave units. This avoids uneven operating hours of unlinked heat pumps where one unit does all the work and the others rarely turn on.

 

6) Our PHP heat pumps have a longer and more comprehensive warranty than most manufacturers. Spare parts and service are from the QLD Sunshine Coast rather than Sydney or Melbourne.
