The Complete Range of Products for Solar Power

At SolarGreen, we provide the complete range of products and components required for the generation of solar power at a home or business. Your system can include some or all of the following components:

  • Solar Panels
  • An Inverter
  • A Battery
  • A Charge Controller

Let’s take a look at these components.

Solar Panels

Today’s solar panels are more efficient than ever and have more than 100 photovoltaic cells; these are the cells that perform the ‘heavy lifting’ of converting sunlight into electricity. Here’s how it works: photons strike the surface of the cells and this leads to the creation, or generation, of power. The key to today’s solar technology is the ‘maximization of solar insolation’. The position of solar panels is also important. Some models can rotate in order to gain full exposure to the sun throughout the day. When choosing solar panels, it’s important to choose high quality panels as these will last the longest, require less maintenance, and be the most effective and efficient over the long-term.

Energy Inverter

When a solar panel generates electricity, it is direct current (DC). However, the power in the home is alternating current (AC). So the job of the energy inverter is to change energy from the solar panels into power the home or business can use.

You’ll find three types of inverters.

  • Stand alone ( for off Grid Applications)
  • Multi-function ( For both wind and solar)
  • Synchronous ( for Grid connection)

The solar energy expert from SolarGreen will determine the type of inverter that will work best for your needs. The expert may recommend a synchronous inverter if you want to sell power back via the Grid to your electricity company. This is the most common in residential areas.  A multifunction inverter can be an excellent choice in rural applications. Stand Alone is when no other power source is available.

Solar Energy Battery

In some homes and businesses, peak electricity is not available to the property, So it’s important to store energy that’s produced during the day. Electricity produced during daylight hours should be stored in a bank of batteries or a single battery. There are several different types of batteries on the market for solar applications and it’s important to match the type of battery to the inverter and, most importantly, to the needs of your property. Remember that batteries require maintenance. Batteries should also be placed in well-ventilated areas and they operate most effectively at around 20 degrees centigrade.

Charge Controller

To prevent damage to the batteries, a charge controller monitors and regulates the current and voltage that moves to the battery from the solar panels.

The size of the components depends on a number of factors. These include how much electricity you need or want to generate, the size of your property, and your budget.
